The SO-CAL Speed Shop is proud to announce that it will open its hot rod and race shops to fans of NHRA drag racing in Pomona.
Located just 10 minutes from the famed NHRA dragstrip in Pomona, CA, the SO-CAL Speed Shop is one of the world's leading hot rod shops-building, restoring and racing some of the coolest rides around.
Founded in 1946 by Alex Xydias who actually raced his front-blown Ardun-powered '34 Coupe at Pomona in the early fifties, SO-CAL is best known for the red and white race cars it fielded at the dry lakes and Bonneville. Of course, SO-CAL continues to race a team of GM-sponsored vehicles at Bonneville including a modern Ecotec-powered version of the SO-CAL Belly Tank Lakester.
To commemorate almost 60 years in the racing business, SO-CAL will open its doors to NHRA drag racers and fans during both the World Finals and the Winternationals for tours of it 25,000 sq. ft. facility.
"Typically, the shops are only accessible during our annual open house on the Friday before Father's Day," said SO-CAL President Pete Chapouris. "However, over the past few years we have seen a growing number of NHRA fans come by and request tours. Consequently, we've put together a plan to accommodate them on the Saturday mornings of these two major events and we hope fans will come by and check out some of the cool cars we're building."
The SO-CAL Speed Shop located at 1357 E. Grand Ave., Pomona, will be open on the following days:
Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004
The SO-CAL Speed Shop will be open from 8am until 3pm serving coffee and donuts during the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.
Saturday, Feb. 13, 2005
The SO-CAL Speed Shop will be open from 8am until 3pm serving coffee and donuts during the K&N Filter NHRA Winternationals.
Should fans not be able to make it, our clothing and collectible store in Montclair, CA, will be open during the following hours:
