Unfortunately, it would be a sad day for the old Turbo 350...but the old workhorse had served the '53 Chevy well for the past 10 years. The upcoming swap was made easier due to the car's removable crossmember, but the protruding exhaust would have to come down.

Also simplifying things was the fact that the 200 was/is the same length as the short 350; the only difference was a fixed tailshaft and further rearward mount on the overdrive. This may not be as relevant if you're swapping from a manual trans, but what is beneficial regardless is that the 200 is one of the smaller-bodied overdrives, which means you won't have to do a lot of cutting and splicing to fit.

Instead of plucking both the engine and trans, we took advantage of the Tech Center's handy AutoLifters hydraulic lift. The engine was held tight with a heavy-duty strap while the 350 was carefully removed.

Other than simple removal of a brake line, the new 200 slipped into place like butter. Suffice it to say, any sheetmetal massaging will be minimal. Now, your particular crossmember situation maybe a whole different ballgame, though.
