Like many early-'50s front suspensions, the stock '49-54 Chevy IFS was fine for its day, but lacks the road manners and performance potential of more modern designs. It's heavy, the spindles still pivot on kingpins, and the steering gets in the way of most any engine swap.

Heidt's suspension kits are available in a variety of different packages, from basic crossmembers to which you add your own Mustang II components, to all-inclusive assemblies with polished stainless control arms. For this installation, Kevin selected a Deluxe crossmember and coil spring suspension with dropped spindles, plain steel tubular control arms, and 11-inch disc brakes.
